From Blank Wall to Statement Fireplace Feature

This project started with a large, open wall and a clear goal from the homeowner: create a custom fireplace feature wall, but leave functional workspace on the left-hand side.

The result is a clean, modern fireplace unit with vertical shiplap, a solid wood mantel, and built-in shelving — designed intentionally around how the space would actually be used.

Custom Layout Designed Around the Homeowner

Not every fireplace wall needs full built-ins on both sides. In this case, the customer wanted open floor space on the left to serve as a work area, so the shelving was installed only on the right.

That decision created:

- A balanced but asymmetrical design

- Functional open space for a desk or workspace

- Built-in shelving without overcrowding the wall

- A focal point that still feels clean and intentional

This is the advantage of custom carpentry — the design adapts to the homeowner, not the other way around.

Vertical Shiplap for Depth and Contrast

The open left side allows flexibility — office setup, reading nook, seasonal décor, or simply open breathing space.
